The Concepts of Grammar and Rhetoric in Language Teaching
Main Article Content
Abstract
There is not, according to the author, a general linguistic theory capable of resolving all the problems of applied linguistics. Language pedagogy is a specific field that requires us to choose between multiple methodological hypotheses according to our own needs. With this in mind, the author presents two concepts posed, at the University of Rennes, by Jean Gagnepain: the concepts of grammar and rhetoric. Operative for the analysis of everyday discourse, the grammar-rhetoric dichotomy also makes it possible to define the pedagogical work in the learning of native and foreign languages.
