Abstract

The teaching of difficult vocabularies is an essential element of all language educational programs aimed at enriching the linguistic corpus of learners. Semantic field theory is most widely used for vocabulary teaching in current educational contexts. It follows a teaching approach based on semantic diffusion, using mind maps as a supportive teaching tool recommended by modern educational trends. Furthermore, this study aims to evaluate and quantify to what extent mental maps based on semantic diffusion are used in the teaching of difficult vocabulary in primary schools in the Wilaya of Mostaganem. This study concludes that the use of the strategy of mental maps by primary school teachers based on semantic diffusion in the teaching of difficult vocabularies in Algeria is still far from the intended objective, because the teachers presented a level average in their execution of this task.
