Assessment of cognitive abilities In people with multiple sclerosis
Main Article Content
Abstract
Multiple sclerosis is one of the most common neurological diseases of this age among young
people, a chronic inflammatory disease referred to as a response to the autoimmune immunity of
the central nervous system's immune system, resulting in this immune attack forming macular
sheath foci in multiple and branching areas of the brain And spinal cord. In recent years, researchers
and neurologists have become increasingly interested in the neurological and cognitive aspects of
the disease.
Studies show that people with MS are characterized by gradual deterioration in various aspects,
including cognitive functions, a set of interrelated and closely related mental activities that help the
individual adapt to the environment and include many functions including attention, cognition and
memory.
The objective of this study is to determine the degree of the effect of this disease on cognitive
functions and to determine the type and evaluation of cognitive disorders in this group of patients.
The descriptive approach was used on a sample of 40 patients with MS in its early stages. The
researcher applied the MOCA (Memory - attention - account - language - executive functions -
orientation).
The results of the study showed that these people suffer from disorders in cognitive abilities. In the
end, the researcher suggested some sensory motor exercises to reduce the exacerbation of cognitive
disorders in this category
