Stylistic Cohesive Devices
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study investigates the syntactic patterns that shape the stylistic identity of Arabic sentences. It classifies these patterns into two main categories: requestive (performative) styles, such as the imperative, prohibitive, interrogative, optative, exhortative, vocative, desiderative, and hopeful forms; and non-requestive (non-performative) styles, including the oath, exclamatory, exception, simile, restrictive, negative, emphatic, and commendatory or derogatory forms. Each style is examined in terms of its conceptual foundation, the linguistic devices it employs, and its syntactic construction, with special attention to the semantic role that differentiates one style from another.
