Abstract

Skate Waltrim is considered one of the English figures who contributed a large share to linguistic research and linguistic works on the basis of the experimental doctrine that has strengthened its trend in Europe since the nineteenth century. By relying on historical, material, and scientific foundations in analyzing words, studying their origins, the emergence of their connotations, and the development of these connotations, he presented to us works, the most important of which in this regard is his etymological dictionary called:

An Etymological Dictionary of The English Language.

His book on the etymological foundations of English language words is called:

Principles of English Etymology

In the course of these works, he has opinions that almost distinguish him from his predecessors in this school of thought, including his keen attention to linguistic registration and his views on the primacy of some words and their precedence over others in appearance based on the small number of their syllables, their correct origins, and the judgment on the originality and precedence of words with original vowels. On the same emergency movements. With these opinions and theories, he served the language of his people in particular and those concerned with linguistic research in the human tongue in general.

This is in addition to his care in distributing a large number of words according to the linguistic origins to which they refer. In particular, this work distinguishes that group of words that trace back to Arabic origins directly or through other languages. These words were taken from Arabic before they became foreign to the English language.

With all of this, Skeet is considered one of those who promote this important trend in precise linguistic research based on historical analysis, extrapolation, and reporting scientific facts on material scientific foundations.
