Abstract
This paper is devoted to the study of the relation between the illustration and
the lexical article in the primary school dictionary exploring, first, its relation with
the polysemy to find che criteria of selection of a meaning with regard to another
one to be represented in the illustration, and second, verifying the interaction
between the illustration and the structure of the article dictionary and its impact on
the abbreviation or the redundancy of the article according to the space occupied
hy the linguistic component compared to the visual one.
